Eckelmann implements the quick control of cold rolling mills with its proprietary E•ProBAS automation platform. Control times as low as 1 ms are used to control the hydraulic actuators.

Full control of the rolling process

The high degree of automation in cold rolling mills guarantees the full control of the rolling process and enhances the quality of the finished products, whether of steel or aluminium.


The control is used to coordinate rolling force, strip tension and speed. In addition, the current status of the plant is permanently monitored. Abrasion of the rolls, temperature, refrigerant and lubricant, amongst others, are controlled by intelligent diagnostic functions. Simple operation, integrated diagnostic systems and fully automated rolling sequences increase the productivity of cold rolling mills.

The thickness control automatically adjusts itself to the different operating modes. Even the smallest deviations in thickness tolerance or strip tension are recorded and automatically compensated. Automatic pass schedule calculation ensures that the strip runs smoothly and thereby improves the strip surface quality.
