With its customised modernisation strategies Eckelmann carefully updates the automation and control systems of industrial plants to state-of-the-art technological standards. Modernisation secures the long-term profitability of production processes and protects existing capital investments.
Modernisation, Retrofit, Migration
Whether drive technology, control systems or process management systems—modernisation projects for industrial plants are a key discipline in automation technology. As a manufacturer-independent system integrator and automation expert with more than 35 years of experience in industrial automation, we are familiar with practically any automation system currently in operation.
We have extensive experience to modernize the following automation systems, HMIs and SCADA systems:
|AEG Modicon||Factory Link|
|Simadyn D||GE Fanuc iFIX|
|E-ProBAS – Multibus||GTI PROCON-WIN|
Modernisation = Renewal + Maintenace + Adaptation
One of the most frequent reasons for modernisation is the discontinuation of components or support. A modernisation of the plant becomes imperative in order to secure its long-term availability and profitability.
With a view to protecting existing capital investments and to minimising downtime during the commissioning, a partial substitution or retrofit of components is generally preferable to fully exchanging them.
New components and functions are implemented in several micro-invasive stages that are meticulously planned and adapted to the old system. Usually, the commissioning will only have minimal effects on current operations, as the functions of the modernised components are extensively checked and upgraded in a virtual test environment.
Benefits of a need-based modernisation
- Protection of existing capital investments (e.g. fieldbus cabling, basic automation)
- Significant cost reduction in comparison to complete modernisation
- Commissioning with minimum down time or during operation
- No production loss
- Low-risk modernisation due to relapse strategies and listening mode
- Low expenditure for revalidation of functions
It is our aim to think our way even into insufficiently documented plants and to develop and realise an adequate modernisation concept. The same applies to existing plants that have grown organically over decades. Examples of demanding modernisation and retrofit projects in the steel industry, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, internal logistics, food industry, etc. can be found under “Downloads”.
