For more than 15 years, the automation of sheet metal processing has been a key focus of the Eckelmann Group.
From plasma cutting and oxy-fuel cutting to water jet and laser cutting systems, the Eckelmann Group automates machines and systems in the sheet metal processing industry worldwide.
Cutting sheets and metal plates is often the first step in an entire production chain, on which many machine builders and their end customers focus.
Eckelmann’s CNC technology makes the crucial difference in generating performance and higher utility with processing machines beyond standard functionality.
Cutting sheets, especially thin sheets, is often combined with subsequent punching, bending, or folding. Here, too, Eckelmann is active in control technology.
Laser Cutting
For those who want to cut sheets quickly and precisely, laser cutting is indispensable. With steadily increasing laser power, the application range of laser cutting systems is also steadily expanding.
Nowadays, laser cutting is no longer limited to thin plate material. Eckelmann’s machine controls cut sheets from 3 mm to 200 mm thick. We also offer special applications where the sheets can be up to a meter thick.
Automating the process quickly and reliably requires expertise that the Eckelmann Group has acquired over decades.
Plasma and Oxy-Fuel Cutting
Plasma and oxy-fuel cutting are particularly popular for processing thicker metal plates.
Achieving good cutting results requires knowledge of the process and the demands on machine kinematics.
Eckelmann Features:
- High EMC robustness for safe operation even near strong electromagnetic fields, such as in plasma cutting
- Extensive correction and compensation functions can offset mechanical effects in machine kinematics through the CNC control.
- Simplest height control through CNC-integrated height control
- Wear part and gas management for optimal utilization of service lives and supplies
- Support and combination of various cutting sources and heads and different technologies allow the use of the same control for different cutting processes.
Especially for more complex processes such as bevel cutting or multi-torch systems. Here, the right CNC control and drive technology from Eckelmann make the difference.
Features for Complex Processing
- The CNC core supports various kinematics, providing great freedom in designing the beveling unit.
- Various correction tables for bevel cutting
- Combination of different cutting technologies and up to 12 motor-driven torch carriages with individual height control on one machine
- And if a function is missing, it can always be integrated into Eckelmann’s proprietary CNC core.
Managing Peak Loads
High peak loads in machines like servo presses lead to increased installation costs (cable cross-sections, etc.) and can result in high grid connection costs for the machine operator.
Additionally, during frequent deceleration processes, energy from the servo drives is often converted into heat and thus wasted.
The Eckelmann Group’s E°Darc DCB energy storage modules can significantly reduce these peak loads.
Additionally, the braking energy can be stored and reused during the next pressing operation.
