Eckelmann: A Lifetime Partner for the Healthcare Industry
At the German Biotechnology Days, Eckelmann AG presents itself at Stand 5 as a partner and supplier for biopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers — with deep industry understanding and specialized knowledge in regulated environments. At the Biotechnology Days: exciting references from everyday engineering practice.
Case Study in Biotechnology: Transparent Processes for Biotechnology
Eckelmann teams develop and produce complete system controls: Bioreactor families receive complete hardware and software from our engineering teams, including the installation of electronic and pneumatic components and system tests. Eckelmann solutions encompass all bioreactor functions, such as controlling and regulating pH value, gas flows, and temperatures. The solutions optimally support scaling and flexibilizing production capacities.
Case Study in Pharmaceutical Technology: Automation of Drug Management with Blister Machines
Modern blister machines can precisely dose up to 700 different tablets using just as many individual drives. In the development process, a functional prototype was quickly built using standard control technology from Eckelmann, allowing the customer to begin developing their machine technology early. Meanwhile, control specialists developed a customized, optimized control system. The production blister machine was eventually equipped with the customer-optimized Eckelmann series control E°EXC 881.
Case Study in Medical Technology: Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center / Therapy Control System in the Fight Against Tumors
The Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center (HIT) was the first therapy facility in Europe to use heavy ions for the highly precise treatment of cancer tumors and the first worldwide to have a gantry. For optimal radiation, this beam guidance rotates 360° around the patient. The charged particles are first accelerated to 70% of the speed of light in the accelerator and then precisely directed towards the tumor according to a therapy plan. Engineering teams from Eckelmann AG developed and delivered the control systems for the particle accelerator and the therapy area.
Digital Twin and Smart Service: Unlocking the Potential of 4.0
Eckelmann teams integrate IT technology and automation technology: With our FactoryWare® Data Analytics software, we monitor and analyze key figures and optimize systems — for higher efficiency, predictable service, needs-based personnel deployment, and maximum system availability.
High savings potential in time-related expenses such as engineering hours or travel costs is a focus in simulations using FactoryWare® Virtual Replica with the digital twin. The virtualization is based on design data and allows test runs and commissioning of machines and systems to be conducted on the digital twin. Parallelizing tasks in the engineering process results in shorter development and commissioning times. Additionally, manufacturers and operators benefit from the digital behavior model of the system throughout its entire lifecycle.
Lifecycle Management
Eckelmann bundles organizational and technical smart service packages: In the event of malfunctions at HIT, for example, a personally known engineer from the Eckelmann expert team is available by phone 24/7 within 30 minutes.
One-Stop-Shop for Automation & Digitalization
The Eckelmann Group presents itself at Stand 5 as a full-service provider for automation and digitalization. As a specialist in the requirements of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical technology industries, Eckelmann engineers offer all solutions from a single source: consulting, custom hardware and software solutions, turnkey automation systems, lifecycle management, and smart service.
Whether on a laboratory or industrial scale: Eckelmann solutions make biopharmaceutical production capacities more flexible and efficient. To optimize production, increase efficiency, and sustainably reduce operating costs, both individual systems and complete plants and/or facilities are automated. Biopharmaceutical production units receive complete hardware and software development from a single source, including the installation of electronic and pneumatic hardware, system tests, and commissioning. The solutions optimally support scaling and flexibilizing production capacities.
Naturally, the Wiesbaden-based company is ISO 9001 certified. It also meets increased, sometimes industry-specific regulatory requirements and standards. The foundations are a comprehensive quality management system and certifications in regulated environments, such as ISO 13485 as a supplier for medical technology, ISO 62304 (Medical Device Software), GMP/GAMP 5 processes, and the production of electrical systems according to CE, UL, and UKCA.
By integrating IT technology and automation technology, Eckelmann engineers harness the enormous potentials of Industry 4.0. Tailored digitalization enables monitoring, analysis, and optimization of key figures and systems — for higher efficiency, predictable service, and personnel deployment, and maximum system availability. Moreover, simulating test runs and commissioning with a digital twin saves time, travel costs, and engineering hours.
